In the early 1980s, Canadian composers Mychael Danna and Tim Clément recorded and released a trilogy of electronic environmental music albums inspired by the landscapes and soundscapes of Ontario, Canada.
A Gradual Awakening (1982), Summerland (1984), and Another Sun (1986).

This music was recorded at both Mychael’s harbourfront studio in Toronto and Tim’s log cabin studio in northern Ontario. The influence of recording in the wilderness was essential to the creation of these works and reflects their shared underlying connection to the land.

Situated deep in the woods, Tim’s studio was without electrical power, and so the work involved using power from a generator positioned in a barn over a hundred metres away.

Mychael and Tim also integrated natural field recordings from their immediate surroundings into many of these compositions.

The Early Years, 1980 - 1986, Volume One is a selection of some of the more atmospheric pieces from the trilogy collection.

This new release has been carefully remastered from the original analogue master tapes.
